What is atopic dermatitis?

Atopic dermatitis, often referred to as eczema, is a chronic skin condition that causes inflammation, redness, and intense itching. It results from a combination of genetic, environmental, and immune system factors. Symptoms can vary but often include dry, cracked skin, severe itching, and patches of inflamed skin that may become infected due to scratching.

How do you treat atopic dermatitis?

Treatment for atopic dermatitis aims to reduce inflammation, relieve itching, and restore the skin barrier. Options include topical therapies, oral medications, and advanced biologic therapies like Adbry for moderate-to-severe cases.

Is a chat-visit right for me?

You may be a good candidate for a chat-visit with Well Revolution if:

  • You’re 18-64 years old.
  • You have a previous diagnosis of atopic dermatitis.
  • Your symptoms are not severe enough to require in-person care or hospitalization.
  • You’re not experiencing significant skin infection (e.g., oozing, pus, or fever).
  • You’re not experiencing widespread eczema that impacts your daily functioning.

If your symptoms are severe or worsening, please seek in-person care immediately.

Common atopic dermatitis treatments

Your Well Revolution provider will determine which treatment is best suited to your symptoms and medical history. If a medication like Adbry is prescribed, you can pick it up at a pharmacy of your choice or the nearest Well Revolution Care Location. The cost of your medication may be covered by health insurance.

Treatment for atopic dermatitis typically involves:

  • Biologic Therapies: Adbry (tralokinumab) is a targeted biologic therapy specifically designed to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. It works by inhibiting IL-13, a key driver of inflammation, to reduce itching, redness, and skin damage.
  • Topical Corticosteroids: Hydrocortisone (Cortizone-10), Triamcinolone (Kenalog)
  • Topical Immunomodulators: Tacrolimus (Protopic), Pimecrolimus (Elidel)
  • Oral Antihistamines: Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), Cetirizine (Zyrtec)
  • Moisturizers: CeraVe, Eucerin, Aquaphor

Advanced treatments like Adbry may be recommended if other therapies are insufficient. Oral steroids and immunotherapy are not available through Chat-visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Atopic Dermatitis

What is Adbry, and how does it work?

Adbry (tralokinumab) is a biologic medication approved for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in adults. It works by targeting and neutralizing interleukin-13 (IL-13), a protein involved in the inflammatory process that causes eczema symptoms. By blocking IL-13, Adbry helps reduce inflammation, itching, and skin lesions.

How is Adbry administered?

Adbry is given as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin). The initial dose is typically higher (loading dose) and followed by maintenance doses every two weeks. Your healthcare provider will provide instructions on how to self-administer the injections.

How long does it take for Adbry to work?

Many patients notice improvement in symptoms like itching and redness within the first 2-4 weeks of treatment. However, full results may take longer, depending on the severity of the condition.

Who can use Adbry?

Adbry is typically prescribed to adults with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis who have not responded well to topical treatments or other therapies. It’s administered as an injection and is safe for long-term use when monitored by a healthcare provider.

Are there side effects of Adbry?

Common side effects include injection site reactions, eye irritation, and upper respiratory infections. Serious side effects are rare but may include allergic reactions. Always discuss potential risks with your Well Revolution provider.

Is Adbry covered by insurance?

Adbry is often covered by insurance for eligible patients. Copay assistance programs may also be available to reduce out-of-pocket costs. Contact your insurance provider or ask your doctor for details.
