What is asthma?

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, making it difficult to breathe. It can affect people of all ages and often starts in childhood.

What are the symptoms of asthma?

Common symptoms include wheezing, coughing (especially at night or early in the morning), shortness of breath, chest tightness, and difficulty sleeping due to breathing problems.

How is asthma treated?

Asthma treatment focuses on controlling inflammation and preventing asthma attacks. This typically involves using inhaled medications, such as bronchodilators (to open the airways) and inhaled corticosteroids (to reduce inflammation).

Is a chat-visit right for me?

A chat visit with Well Revolution might be right for you if:

  • You're 18-64 years old
  • You have asthma and need help managing your symptoms
  • You're seeking a refill of your asthma medication

If you're having a severe asthma attack (difficulty breathing, bluish lips or nails), seek immediate medical attention by calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency room.

Common asthma treatments

Your Well Revolution provider will determine which (if any) treatment is medically appropriate based on your symptoms and health history. If prescribed medication, pick it up at a pharmacy of your choice or your nearest Well Revolution Care Location. The cost of your medication may be covered by health insurance.

Treatment for asthma typically involves:

  • Inhaled Corticosteroids: Fluticasone (Flovent), Budesonide (Pulmicort), Beclomethasone (Qvar)
  • Long-Acting Beta-Agonists (LABAs): Salmeterol (Serevent), Formoterol (Foradil)
  • Combination Inhalers (Corticosteroid + LABA): Fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair), Budesonide/formoterol (Symbicort)
  • Short-Acting Beta-Agonists (SABAs, rescue inhalers): Albuterol (ProAir, Ventolin), Levalbuterol (Xopenex)

Nebulizers, oral steroids, and other asthma medications may not be available through Chat-visit.
