They are just about as common as a midnight text from a fuck-buddy on a Saturday night out. Today’s post seeks to further educate those of you who haven’t already experienced a yeast infection! A yeast infection, otherwise known as thrush, is what occurs when candida, a type of yeast that hangs out in your body gets out of control. What usually occurs is similar to that of bacterial vaginosis. The acidity of your vagina changes or an imbalance of your hormones occurs, resulting in a vaginal environment where Candida albicans thrives. The common symptoms of a yeast infection in women include vaginal itching burning, swelling or redness. Women experiencing yeast infections will also be likely to experience a white/grey discharge that looks like cottage cheese (apologies for putting that image in your head).
What are the common causes of a yeast infection?
It is important to note that although yeast infections are more common in women, men can also develop a yeast infection. Men who are experiencing a yeast infection, like women, will exhibit symptoms such as redness, itching and a burning sensation on the penis.
Vaginal and penile yeast infections can simply be treated using a one to a three-day regimen of an antifungal cream, ointment, or tablet.
