Herpes at first sight

May 24, 2018

I’m sure that the vast majority of us are well aware of the revered television show the Bachelor/Bachelorette. However, for those of you who aren’t, The Bachelor/Bachelorette is a reality tv-show involving a group of men or women, foaming at the mouth, and willing to cark it for a rose and a kiss on the cheek. It's pretty much a modern-day gladiatorial approach to finding love, where participants fight for the affection of one person till the last man or women is standing. So, what’s the big fuss? Herpes.

For an applicant to crack momentary fame and have their shot at love, they are first screened for sexually transmitted infections, where applicants are reprimanded by the show’s producers and arm locked into compliance. Not exactly the truth, but close enough to it, because telling from the results it was obvious that plenty of applicants were not planning on getting checked out anytime soon. As a matter of fact, Genital Herpes was the top reason applicants didn’t make it onto the show.

So why was Herpes so popular? It’s mainly got to do with the idea that people associate genital herpes with oozing blisters and sores. But that’s not always the case. Did you know that around 80% of people infected with genital herpes are unaware of it because they have mild or no symptoms at all? Did you know that over 50% of people with genital herpes get it from the 80% of people that are entirely unaware? Shocking! I know. But it’s the truth. So, how can you minimise the risk of contracting Genital herpes? Practice safe sex. Condoms can reduce the risk of passing on the herpes virus, but it doesn’t guarantee safety.

So, if you have any concerns, feel free to get in contact with us! Remember to play it safe, get checked regularly and own your sexual health!
