Hey Team,
Gonorrhea (or alternatively, Gonorrhoea) is going around, BIG TIME. I'm seeing more and more cases of it in the last month. It's particularly common in men who have sex with men.
Gonorrhea is an STI caused by a pesky bacteria called Nerssearia Gonorrhoeae. It usually affects the genital area, although the throat or anus may also be affected. Gonorrhea affects both men and women and is easily transmitted during vaginal intercourse. It can also be transmitted during anal or oral sex.
The thing is, Gonorrhea is spread through skin contact during sex. So if you come into contact with someone who has it and you don't use protection during sex, you're going to get it. Plain and simple.
So, USE PROTECTION and TEST OFTEN.
Often, women with Gonorrhea experience no symptoms. The lack of specific signs and symptoms means Gonorrhea may go undetected for longer in women than in men.
Symptoms of Gonorrhea
If you do have Gonorrhea, then this can be treated with antibiotics.
Be kind to yourself and others. Use protection and test often.
